Why is South Florida the place to be?

To me this picture sums it all up. Walking on the beach, swimming in the ocean, diving, boating, and of course sunshine. In fact I saw all of these activities happening before my eyes on the warm day in March (around 78F) when I took this photo. What more could you want?

Need more reasons?

There are so many reasons to live in South Florida, but the first one that comes to mind is the weather. Where else in the United States can you have beautiful weather all year round?  We have 70 degree temperatures in January.  Say goodbye to scraping the ice off your car, shoveling snow, and needing a scarf.  Wind chill?  We don’t even know the meaning of that phrase.

And while, yes it does get very hot here in the summer, it is a small price to pay for the ability to wear shorts in the winter.   Not to mention, the beach always provides a nice breeze and comfortable ocean water to swim in.  We have 23 miles of pristine beach, just in the greater Fort Lauderdale area alone!  In fact, Broward County beaches have received the coveted Blue Wave Certification – stating that they are among the cleanest and safest beaches in the country.

With a unique three-tiered reef system just off the coast, South Florida is one of the leading dive destinations in the United States.  Along with a wide variety of marine life, drift dives and wrecks gives lots of options to all levels of divers.  We’re not talking hours of boat rides to get to the dive sites either, the reef starts just 100 feet off the shore.  Some dive and snorkel locations are just an easy swim from the beach!

With 300 miles of waterways weaving in and around the Greater Fort Lauderdale area it’s been appropriately named the “Venice of America.”  Boats, kayaks and even water skiers cruise the canals and rivers enjoying the calm waters and beautiful views.  These waterways also lead boaters ready to explore the open ocean right to Port Everglades.   Even if you don’t have a boat of your own, there are many charter companies to choose from - let them do all the work and you have all the fun.

Bordering South Florida on the west is the amazing Everglades ecosystem that offers so much more than alligator sightings.  Bird watching, boating, hiking and camping are just a few of the opportunities in Everglades National Park – the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the United States.

These are just a few reasons why South Florida is so unique.  We also have all the other amenities that make living in a metropolitan area appealing.  From restaurants of every flavor to world class golfing, professional sports teams to boutique shopping, South Florida has everything to satisfy anyone’s extracurricular urges.
